Finding the perfect school lunch box for a first grader might seem like an easy task. This is my 5th and (although it's black and not very fun) it's her favorite and we've brought back others that were more stylish. It does the job we needed. Criterion #1 was that the bento-style lunch box should lie flat! Above I place a morning snack f in a rectangular Tupperware bowl. Along with ice. I'm in between can fit an ice pack on the bottom and the top if it is thinner than ours. We love the domed "secret compartment" at the top which contains a rectangular Tupperware school snack bowl with an ice pack and a very small water bottle! This helps her stay organized for the long day from 8am to 5:30am. There are many different versions of this type of bag, but some were too big, others didn't have a separate compartment for the tip. I also tried the packit which I think would be great as we could freeze it every night and skip the ice packs but it was very heavy and didn't stay cold. The only star I deducted is that the zipper is a little disconcerting/fiddly. When the horizontal zippers in the main compartment are open all the way back, she and I have trouble zipping them up at the corners. The one I wanted to buy again was Bentgo's signature exact style lunch box with much prettier colors. This version is also slightly smaller, but of course Ford has its Bentgo box/. It doesn't fit our other bento-style lunch box, which I think is 10 x 7, but this one does. The brand Bentgo Lunchboxzipper broke within three months! and I can't give this company any more money because the clips on bentgo lunch boxes used to break too! Abuse / not. with 6 nos. I gave this company $60 and both items are broken so it's time to move on to a slightly less stylish model! It seems like a silly problem, but if you deal with it every morning, it's great to find a good solution. As a side note there is another water I just put in her backpack on the side mount, this is her main water for the day and I don't fit in that lunch bag.
