We built a room for our newborn which of course wasn't ready when he was born. So I bought that and a snuggle nest to sleep in between us in our large bed. With our other kids I was always worried that my husband would roll over on them or that one of his TEN pillows would flatten our kids so I bought this one. Snuggle Nest was much better for our bed. He has a night light to find his lost binky and plays music which REALLY helped. This chaise longue fits on the sofa as a safe place for the baby. (If you have 7 kids, SEX IS NOT AN OPTION!) This worked for our purposes on the couch. The child had a safe place to lie, it could not roll off the sofa. I never had to wash it before we gave it away but the label on the bottom came off. Place a burp cloth under your baby's head to catch saliva or belches. It was ok but if I had more kids and I didn't I wouldn't buy them again. Buy a snuggle nest. Our little one lived there for 3 months until his room was ready and loved every minute!
