Yes, it works to reduce the noise of your handheld recorder. BUT! It's super thin. About 10 minutes into the live recording I had to use the viewfinder to keep the shock in place. He kept leaning against the heavy side of the recorder. He leaned forward enough to touch the handle of the stand I was using. I opted for the larger version, which is much more stable and absorbs shocks just as well.
