Review on ANNSM 31.5 Inch Carbon Fiber Camera Track Slider With Auto-Face Tracking Pan And Time-Lapse Capabilities For DSLRs by David Hansen

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Almost great - treat with care

I purchased both the weighted flywheel slider and the parallax motion slider. I would give both a 4. I did not find an option to review them separately.Flywheel slider:I really fell in love with this slider and like the other reviewers found that the weighted sliding mechanism gave amazingly smooth motion. The material also feels excellent, including the soft rubber base on the camera mount. However, the point of failure for me was that the mounting screw became solidly stuck in my tripod head. The screw is a 1/4th inch with a 3/8th inch adapter, and despite my hatred for this setup to be bound to get stuck in a 3/8th port, I took the chance and stuck my tripod head with camera onto the mounting plate. My test session which provided plentiful glee ended in sheer horror as the mounting screw came out of the base and would not come out of my tripod head. I managed to wrench off the mounting screw and almost thought I lost a good tripod head before I resorted to a screw extractor to take out the adapter. I still look at the slider with much love but am deeply concerned about this problem repeating itself in the future. If I could give partial stars this would be a 3.5 due to the mounting screw and base joining being of poor design, however, since I am forced to, I will add 0.5 point for the quality of the slide action itself. If you can live with careful and light handling of this, taking care not to torque the camera or tripod head onto the base a lot, then you can enjoy it for the sliding action.I also like that it is a bit more compact and light compared to other weighted sliders.Parallax slider:Honestly if I didn’t experience flywheel sliders I might have given this a 5, but I have already been spoiled. Flywheels are the only way to go if you want consistent slides with less effort, just like Syrp sliders. This parallax slider however, has the smoothest bearings and slide of those that don’t have flywheel. It is seriously smooth and with practice I’m sure could be managed to be consistently used. The parallax motion is also beautiful. The only knock on this is that the parallax rod has to be very carefully placed back into position to ensure the slide can be performed straight again without parallax. While I would love to give this a 5, I would say I could only do so if the price was around $80-$90, then this build choice would be more than acceptable. Still I commend the manufacturer for coming up with this unique design.

Pros
  • Solid construction and works like a charm.
Cons
  • The auto-face tracking pan functionality is rather unreliable, often resulting in jerky or incorrect movements that ruin important shots
