Review on Matfer Bourgeat Nylon Dough 🍰 Scraper for Efficient Scrapping and Baking by Jamie Smith

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Hopefully it will last a long time considering it costs 6 times more than the spatulas I replace

I bought a Matt Nylon spatula to use with two King Author Flour brand plastic spatulas replace that wear out. Specifically, I'm replacing the "heavy" orange KAF variant and its simple white spatula. The matter feels sharper in my hands than I expected. I'm used to the flexibility of the softer KAF material, which bends easily in my small hands (I can easily scoop batter out of deep bowls with a plain white KAF dough scraper because the scraper bends). Matfer wasn't as convenient to use as the KAF white dough scraper. Also, the Matfer is longer and bigger (not very comfortable to hold in my hands. I'm wearing small exam gloves for reference). I'm hoping that the durable, unyielding Matfer nylon will be the last dough scraper I ever have to buy because I find it expensive at $12. Update in two years: The Matt dough scraper is still on the rise. I haven't seen any visible signs of material deterioration, but I have to admit I don't bake as much as I used to. I still find nylon uncomfortable when portioning dough, for example, and I don't like that the scraper doesn't bend (I can't easily and cleanly scrape the sides of a bowl). as I wish). An unexpected plus of the Matfer test scraper's stiffness - I recently upgraded my computer's memory and needed a nylon tool to disconnect the battery before removing the factory installed memory modules. For a while I just stared blankly at what I could use that wouldn't cause accidental static electricity build-up while I was working on a computer upgrade. Rigid, flat and nylon, right? Pulling the plug back won't mess up this $12 scraper - and try to disconnect the battery. It worked really well; and I'm happy to report that the scraper doesn't look worse with wear :D! Conclusion: The Matter Dough Scraper is really strong, with very little warping or stiffness. My original 3/5 star rating stands because it's awkward to use to portion dough (at least it was for my little hands). And when I'm working with particularly sticky dough, the Matfer dough scraper doesn't bend at all to scrape the proofer wall, I have to reach for the spatula to get the job done. I'm glad I haven't seen any signs of damage to the material as far as I can tell.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Minor issues
