If your child has a wide foot, I would recommend taking half a size up. After that, the exchange for 5.5 came off perfectly. We got the shoes when he was learning to walk, so his toes frayed a few weeks after he started crawling and dragging. Just a note. He looks so cute in his new sneakers!
