Great learning experience!

me Egyptian Mummy Excavation Set What a nice surprise! This is a unique educational "toy" that I believe adults should participate in. To work it out properly and really get something out of the process, you need to allocate an hour of "digging” with your child. I made this with my 7 year old granddaughter. We took the block "Sandstone” out of the box and admired all the hieroglyphs on it. I then got them to dig with the provided wooden tool. She suggested using a screwdriver or knife as it would work better and faster than a blunt wooden tool. This was my chance to explain that archaeologists prefer soft wooden tools because they don't damage what they find buried in the hard sand. was too much for her small hands. So we made a deal. I brushed off the hard sand and she used the brush provided to clean up the debris exposing our "digs". Energy. We hacked and cleaned together for about half an hour before we could lift the sarcophagus. Then we opened the lid and found that the sarcophagus was also filled with hard sand! Even more "tougher" (fun!) to carefully scrape and wipe to find a corpse inside! I explained to her the importance of being patient (a concept unfamiliar to most seven-year-olds) to avoid breaking fragile bones. She made the whole process great! After recovering and cleaning the body, we wrapped it in the tape provided and placed it back in the cleaned sarcophagus. The job was done and I feel my granddaughter enjoyed a valuable learning experience. She learned the value of patience and focus, two very valuable lessons for today's children. Highly recommended!
