I just couldn't find better headphones than the Etymōtic that matched and still have good noise isolation (not "cancellation" but - like earplugs - noise isolation/blocking) while still offering good quality sound, especially for jazz and classical music. I ride the subway almost every day and they offer great sound quality while blocking outside noise. I also use them on flights and they work well in these conditions. I've tried my friends' big and expensive noise-cancelling headphones while flying and prefer these noise-isolating headphones because they're light. I don't like carrying bulky, much heavier headphones. It is very important that they come with multiple ear tip styles and sizes! I've tried so many headphones from other manufacturers over the years that have failed miserably at maintaining a snug fit. The idea that ANY size/shape of any type of earbud (including your AirPods, Apple) can be more or less "one size fits all", or that the inclusion of just an extra pair of alternatively sized headphones can solve the problem of one Variety of ear shapes and sizes is just ridiculous. . (I've tried my friends' Apple AirPods and sometimes they just fell out of my ears if I just turned my head too fast!) Highly recommend.
