I don't know why some people have trouble using this switch with smarthings (unless smarthings have other troubles). I have a Gen 1 that I've been using for over 2 years and now it's Gen 2 and they both work with no issues. The Gen2 does not have a rubber plug to cover the socket. So if you're planning on leaving it mounted outside without plugging it into an outlet, that could pose a problem. I don't mount mine so no problem for me.
