I chose Altec and others over Bose because of the reviews and price - and I'm very happy with my choice! The unit looks great, fits on my shelf and just does its job - delivering clean, clear, high quality sound. I can hear my iPod, but I also have an iM7 hooked up to my TV's audio output, which means I get GREAT sound from TV, DVDs and CDs (which I play through my DVD player). I have bulkier audio gear and satellite speakers (just moved to a new house) but the Altec system gives me really good sound that fills the entire living room so well that I decided to use it as the main movie. - Sound system, and leave the rest of the gear for storage! The sound is really excellent, as has been noted time and time again. The bass is nice and strong, the highs crisp and clear (both adjustable, by the way). Overall fantastic sound quality, all in a nice, compact (and more affordable) package. As this is more of a feature improvement idea than a complaint, it doesn't affect my overall 5-star rating: I'd love to see a mute function or faster volume control response on this device. Sometimes I want to quickly turn down the volume (on any sound producing device) - just because the phone is ringing, or the kids are going crazy, or I just forgot to turn down the volume after playing music very loud yesterday :) Anyway , because the device has buttons instead of a volume control, and those buttons have to be pressed long or hard (and a corresponding delay) before the device's firmware can decide whether you want a slight gradual or continuous change in volume (or tone, or whatever always) wish ), actually there is no way to change the volume fast enough. That way, in the event of an "emergency" (you need to take a call or calm the kids), you just have to turn it off. Again, as others have pointed out, the Altec iM7 offers the best value at a great price. Price. They can of course be cheaper, but the quality will deteriorate in my opinion. Or you buy the most expensive Bose devices, which really don't offer you much more than Altec in this niche. So why spend more when you can spend less? Great device, highly recommended!
