Review on Moen 900 001 4 Inch Smart Shutoff by Mark Howard

The IFTTT integration will be removed, ending its functionality.

I would have written a pretty positive review about it before they recently announced that IFTTT support would be discontinued. The price was "fair" and recommended by my plumber after my pipe broke and I received an insurance claim. However, intelligent logic is only so intelligent. In home mode, you will get a 5-minute warning, and after 5 minutes, there may be a lot of water leakage if the pipe bursts. I think my last insurance claim was due to a burst pipe going unnoticed for maybe 15 minutes. I get a lot of false positives and this has proved difficult to learn. I understand why turning the water off in the middle of the shower would be a big PITA, so care has to be taken. I get notifications when my tank needs a refill of reverse osmosis water, which I think is right. Then one day I got an alert after watering my garden where it was revealed that 3600 gallons had been used. It was water sprinklers, so that was an acceptable use, but it's funny that after a long day of watering, he warned about 3600 gallons. None of these shortcomings mattered, I already had a smart home with smartthings so all I had to do was add some water sensors to the mix and now I can turn off the water via IFTTT. Now they have announced that they reject this service, claiming that people only used it for email notifications. Well Flo that's a lie, I used it to protect my house and now that IFTTT is retired all my water sensors are useless. You can bet I won't buy another Moen product and will cancel my Flo subscription. I won't be giving up my investment right away, but I will be looking for the next smart water shut-off system to replace what I have.
