Review on Belkin Lightning To USB Cable - MFi-Certified IPhone Lightning Cable (4Ft/1 by Nick Beck

Works but does not tolerate heat

I bought this unit for a long trip to listen to my iPhone 5 music. I used it with a Belkin MIXIT USB Car Charger - 1 AMP and an additional Belkin cable. This special cable made it easy to charge the phone from a car socket. The good news is that it worked well when charging. My phone got a little warm at times, but not too much. The bad news is that it might be too hot for this cable. We drove 7 hours a day, most of the time my phone was on and off. On a warm day (it was about 85 outside) I went to check my phone and it was dead despite being plugged in. I wiggled the cord a bit and it started charging again, so I didn't think about it much. But the next day, charging was even more difficult. And then on the third day I was about to unplug my phone and the whole piece of metal that fits in the phone fell out of the cord and got stuck in my phone. Like the glue melted or something. I used my teeth to pry the metal piece out of my phone and as I did I could taste and feel that the glue was definitely melting. Heat might be the issue to be honest, but I'll say this: I use my Apple charger in my other car all the time in such extreme heat that my phone won't even turn on, and I've never had one cable disintegrates. Also, during our longest drive at 13 hours, I used the Apple cable in the Belkin MIXIT USB car charger instead, and my phone never got hot or had any trouble charging. Saying that while this works for short rides, it doesn't stand up to wear and tear, including heat or prolonged use.
