Review on πŸ”Œ StarTech.com Cisco Console Rollover Adapter - RJ45 Ethernet Cable Network Adapter - Blue, RJ-45 (M) to RJ-45 (F) by Charles Phillips

Works great but will interfere with neighboring ports

Ideal for converting a standard patch cord into a swiveling console cord. Unfortunately, it has a ledge that extends the adapter down into the socket space above or below. This is not unique to this particular adapter/vendor, adapters from other vendors are the same. In many cases this is not a problem. The console connections on my Juniper and Cisco setup themselves, with no port above/below the console port, so there's no problem using an adapter. My Arista has the console port directly above the ethernet management port, so plugging into the Arista console port puts pressure on the ethernet management cable and therefore on the ethernet management port itself. On the other hand, I have a console server and its ports are vertical like the switch's, and hence I have the same problem when the adapter pushes on an adjacent cable. The design also means you cannot place two of these adapters in adjacent vertical ports as they would interfere with each other. A slight change in design makes this adapter perfect. The buckle needs to be reversed so that it is on the side of the clamp, as some (all?) cross adapters do. Adding a bulge to the side of the terminal prevents it from interacting with an adjacent vertical terminal. This means that the Arista console port does not interfere with the management Ethernet port, but also that they can be placed on the console server side without interfering with other connections.
