This is a great set for the beginner or intermediate artist who wants to play with watercolor techniques. The colors are of high quality - it's easy to saturate the brush and paint with bright or bold colors. However, they are transparent and are also easy to wash, apply colors or mix colors. I bought this set as a gift for my mom who is a beginner but I use it too. I particularly appreciate the included metallic colors. I use them sparingly so I often get a subtle highlight that draws attention where I want it. I wish I had had a set like this when I was a teenager. Back then (and now) I used acrylic because I like bold colors. But I think with this set I would have gotten much further as a watercolor painter and my painting would have been a little more controlled. Definitely worth the price, whether as a gift for someone else or for yourself!
