I bought the Hard Armor case first and then replaced it with the simpler Hard Armor case. If solid protection is your priority, a thicker layer might be the way to go. But I prefer this slimmer case that offers basic protection (although I just miss the kickstand). The dimensions are slightly different or the curve was what I expected wrong (the Tough Armor case is thicker than I expected). See attached photo for comparison. Here's what I got on my digital caliper: 0.33" - Thickness of phone 0.36" - Thickness of phone measured at camera bump 0.45" - Rugged Armor case 0.51" - Tough Armor case feels bulkier than I expected. The main reason I switched to a thinner case was the volume buttons. On the Tough Armor case, the volume buttons are imperceptible (they don't protrude at all). The power button is easy to find, but the volume buttons are a bit of a mystery. The Rugged Armor case solves that problem and has nice, comfortable buttons. Another thing I didn't like about the thicker Tough Armor case is that the holes for the USB-C power port and headphone jack are further recessed. I use plugs to fill these holes when not in use and have had trouble pulling them out due to the thickness of the case. Note: I strongly recommend buying USB-C and headphone jacks. They keep the ports clean so they really work when you want to use them. Otherwise, Pocket Link and dirt will shorten the life of the jacks. These plugs also help a bit with water resistance. The only design flaw on the Tough Armor is the volume buttons. Otherwise, I just prefer the thinner Rugged Armor case.
