Great look after modification.

Beautiful NATO strap. I appreciate that the locking loops are also leather and not metal like many NATO straps. It's incredibly comfortable and along with the right watch size, you won't even realize you're wearing it. As others have pointed out the leather is quite thin and extremely soft as it is high quality leather and not real. I knew I was going but for the price I still wanted to give it a try. I'm actually very happy with the durability. Yes, it's very soft and pliable, and yes, that means you're likely to get a crease at the clasp and a slightly elongated hole on the first day of use, like I did. However, the same softness makes it extraordinarily comfortable. The kink and slot did not continue or expand after they were formed, and the material there did not thin. They formed the first day I put this strap on and I have worn it daily during physical work, exercise and rest and it has stayed exactly the same. I've been using this strap for about a month. I have a feeling it will last quite a while and I'm not worried about the buckle breaking or anything. The positive aspect of the thin strap is that it doesn't make your watch sit too high on your wrist. I'm a grown man with a very small wrist. I need to choose a watch with a small case (38mm) and I also want a relatively thin watch. Anything too big or thick will look out of place on a thin wrist. Because the NATO strap is attached to the watch, you have two layers of strap material between your wrist and the case back. Having a thick NATO strap can cause the watch to sit quite high on your wrist, and when you wear shirts, especially those with French cuffs, the sleeve sometimes doesn't fit over the watch. With a tape that thin, that's not a problem. CHANGES: (see photos) I said it looked great after the change. what did i mean First I ordered Gingerbread Brown and they were much, much lighter than the picture. Second, the buckle is polished chrome, but my Seiko 5 has a matte sandblasted case. I venture to surmise that the rougher looks of field watches, coupled with NATO straps, mostly favored a matte buckle finish over a polished one. In my case, I really felt that the polished buckle belied the dull, rough look of the watch. So I did the following: 1. I rubbed copious amounts of mink oil into the belt. Front, back, under hinges, everywhere. I used a decent amount but really grated. No chips or stains remain on the surface. Then I baked the band on its side on a baking tray at 200 degrees for 40-60 minutes. I took it out and repeated the mink oil and baking process 2 more times for a total of 3 times. This combination of mink oil and baking makes the leather really supple, increasing durability and darkening the color. An additional advantage is the impregnation of the leather, which prevents water absorption and water stains. Now I'm very happy with the color. Much darker than it was, but with more character than "Saddle Brown".2. I used a regular Scotch-Brite pad to clean the metal parts very easily and evenly. You don't want to press hard and scratch the metal leaving visible lines. You want to buff it in one direction almost over and over again. It takes a few minutes but you can achieve a really nice matte finish that looks like it was made that way.
