Not recommended for thick bamboo.
I needed this for larger diameter bamboo. Broke after 3 hits with a mallet trying to start the splits. Torn to pieces. Cast iron is brittle, yes, but it shouldn't fall apart when hit with a mallet. All glitches started from the thin edge of the blades. Perhaps the thinness of the blades is good for small diameter material, but certainly not for larger material. Instructions in Japanese.
