Review on πŸ“ž ASUS White SV1TW Skype Video Phone with Touchscreen by Cathy Peng

Welcome to the future of telecommunications!

At a price comparable to a cell phone, this $219 device does what we've seen in sci-fi movies since the '80s. Or was it the 70s? I used Netgear SPH200D. but i bought it when it was cheap. about $120. The price skyrocketed right after purchase, and right now it's a MUCH better deal than this audio-only phone from Netgear. The device boots in seconds, logs in automatically and you are connected to the network in 1 minute! Of course, you'll have to go through the initial Wi-Fi password and Skype sign-in setup, but once that's done, using it is as easy as pressing the speed dial button on your office phone. Okay, this device has a few minor flaws, but not enough to stop me from admiring it. Here are the "cons" of the device: - Battery life. The battery is really designed for short-term disconnection from the socket. 20-30 minutes. But here's the thing, the battery feels LIGHT. This means someone can make a larger capacity battery if they want to. The stand isn't foldable, so you really can't call this device "portable." Due to its odd shape, it will be difficult to put in a travel bag. But I agree that it is "portable in your house". - In the contact list there is no separation of telephone contacts and Skype contacts. So it's not possible to get a nice Who's Online list that you can see at a glance like you would with a PC or iPod Touch app. I read somewhere that someone mentioned that the camera is not up to date. Well, actually it's not a photo device, it's designed for video calls. So I half-agree that the low-megapixel camera can be improved. Other areas for improvement: - Great clock when not on a call (shows time but disappears after a minute). Why not make the clock a fixed function and add an alarm? The 7-inch screen is large enough to turn into a digital photo frame, ASUS should consider adding a basic SD card slot for personal photos. Despite all of that, this is an AMAZING phone for Skype. Futuristic design, fairly simple operation, video call quality is just excellent. We recommend!
