This is a nylon/stocking but they are very strong (can't imagine they would tear through normal wear). I bought these after reading the reviews and the other reviewers are correct that these socks are NOT suitable if the person has thick thighs. They definitely sit on the calves but it's actually the thighs because the straps are too tight (despite the cute sticky bean pattern to hold them up) but they give off that cute translucent look. I let her try anyway. They roll down but I bought them mainly because I can always take the bobs off and put them on socks that fit my width! :) If you're a person with hips, get them and if you're willing to work a little and only spend on beans. Take her! I feel so charming in them.
