In my opinion they have the traditional KEF LS50 sound but with improved mid-bass, treble, clarity and detail. My ears hear a definite improvement with the META updates. They don't like badly recorded material, but well-recorded music shines. You need a good, properly tuned subwoofer. The old HSU works for me too. You need a good amp. They are just as power hungry as the old LS50s and seem to prefer AB power supplies over D power supplies. Don't ignore the amp recommendations as hooking them up to hardware store electronics won't help. The NAD 3045 and PS Audio Sprout couldn't get them right into my ears, although the Sprout came close at low listening levels. I run them on an IOTA VX stack.
