This is a plain black tie with a smooth surface and no pattern. That's about the size I see other men wearing tuxedos for formal occasions these days. Unless you wear a tuxedo a few times a year at most, you might not need anything more sophisticated. It's also a good tie to have a backup. My son borrowed a more expensive one and it was worn but this one looks better given the circumstances. I bought it to have it ready next time I go to an official site, but I'm not sure I'll rush, buy something more expensive, and delegate it to the reserve. My neck is about 16 inches tall and I had to trim the length down a bit before wearing it, so I expect it to fit a large neck without too much trouble. Sized to match my shirt but it only looks good if your shirt is tailored properly. A self-tied bow tie will look better, but most people won't notice the difference, especially if you're not in the middle of the action. . When you're getting married you might want to treat yourself to something nicer, but if you want to buy something cheap you can always decide later if it's good enough for the occasion.
