These cables typically have the microphone closer to one side of the cable than the other. This is the side that should be connected to the headphones. With these cables, the microphone is located roughly in the middle of the cable. This means no matter which side you plug the mic in from, the mic will be somewhere near your waist unless you're holding the mic near your mouth. The volume of the microphone itself isn't bad, but it has a really odd design. This was the case with all three cables in the order so I sent them back. I don't know in which situation it would make sense.
