Got this for my 6 year old as a Christmas present. I wasn't sure since he's not a huge fan of video games, but he seemed interested in Skylander. I never thought I would say I want my kid to play video games, but I was hoping that it would help them with some hand-eye coordination. I'm so glad I have this! It's not difficult and it's fun. I don't usually like or play video games, but we played together and had a lot of fun. It was a great activity on rainy days - time together where we talk, laugh and work as a team. It has some guns and combat, but in a very cartoony style (albeit great cartoony graphics). I don't think it's purple, and I'm a bit of a proponent of not letting him look/play with purple things. Please note that this is a small money pit as you have to buy different traps, so you end up constantly buying characters and traps to progress in the game. If you've never played, there should be characters in the game (there are a few in the starter pack, but you'll need more over time). The characters sit on a circular platform that you attach to your Wii. If a character "dies", simply swap it out for another one and continue the game. You can reuse characters as you level up, but we found out last night that we used all of our characters in a particularly tough fight and had to restart the chapter because we ran out of characters - haha. It's fine, and I love that you don't have to restart the whole game - good for a six-year-old who's going to get very upset about it. In addition to the characters, you will need "traps” that sit in a special slot on the platform. You capture the villains you defeat. However, some villains are "earth" characters, some are "water" characters, etc. (there are many "types". You need different traps for each type. We have "trap" and "Soil Trap" are on our wish list right now - LOL.
