Believe it or not, I ordered this duvet because of the 'thin' reviews. I wanted a light, thin 100% cotton bedspread when my sister stays with me (she complains my house is too warm). People have different perceptions, and each of us is certainly unique. The blanket was thicker than I expected. and this is waffle weaving. The blanket is stretchy and soft (not like hospital blankets which I hate). There was a slight odor due to the fact that it was encased in plastic which disappears on the bed after around 24 hours and it certainly seems high quality to me. In fact, I love it so much that I'm considering getting rid of my own blanket made of various man-made materials and replacing it with another one of these. I'm so glad I took the risk and ordered it despite some negative reviews. I love it. I don't know how he washes because I don't plan to do it until he's needed. But I'm really happy with this purchase! TO UPDATE! I AM SO DISAPPOINTED. They don't make this life size blanket. I wanted one for my bed.
