I agree with another reviewer that the marking on the outer shell is very helpful when setting up the heating pad, especially as the outer shell is transparent. However, it is possible that this is not the case since the amount of water varies depending on the heating pad used. My only other issue is that the heating pad is sometimes difficult to remove from the outer shell, but that has more to do with the shape of the heating element than anything else. That being said, this thing is surprisingly good at boiling water. I'm used to MRE heaters that never heat anything. Based on that assumption, I nearly burned my tongue the first time I used this thing. It works quickly, efficiently and almost exactly as advertised. It usually heats up a full cup of coffee in about 10 minutes, even when the temperature is below zero. I haven't experimented with reheating soups or anything like that, but based on its speed and heat transfer, I believe it would work just as well for soups and chili. Overall this item is better than expected and exactly what I was looking for.
