Ordered a scratching post for the shabbiest corner of the sofa. We didn't use catnip on the scratching post because the cats (all males) got used to the scratching post straight away. They are active and vary in size, weight (3-20 pounds), and age (from 3 months to several years). Now they leave all other corners of the sofa alone and prefer the scratching post. If we had known this product existed when we bought the sofa, we would have happily paid $50. I may buy another one to make the sofa look more uniform and give the kittens another compact scratching spot. The leg of the couch rests on a plexiglass base. Also, our sofa is good because it's modular and each pillowcase is removable for washing OR to buy individual pillowcases that will be damaged. Incidentally, I'm very sensitive to chemicals (glue, carpets, etc.) and dust (including some sisal) and this scratch didn't bother me.
