Beast of a Seat: Car Seats & Accessories

Let me start by saying that I am a professional nanny who has taken several car seat courses and done hundreds of car seat installations for various seats and vehicles. These Diono seats are tanks. They are not easy to install and require a few "tricks". I was able to safely install (and pass) CPST nine months pregnant in the Florida summer heat without TOO much trouble), but I wouldn't recommend this seat if you're switching between cars or have someone you don't know. with car seat adjustments for transporting your child (grandparents, friends etc.). I drive a 2016 Honda Civic and my two year old son has been in a Diono Randian RXT mounted in the middle seat since birth. I chose the Diono because I needed a narrow seat to get the most out of the back seat and I wanted something that would last from newborn to booster seats. I was very excited about the new QXT seat for my newborn because it solved some of the issues I had with the RXT. Side Impact Protection - This seat offers better side impact protection in both the seat pan and the attached pod than its predecessors. finished. I feel very comfortable when my newborn is in the passenger seat. Rollback Bar - Older Dionos have a strap that you attach to the front seat rails, which reduces rotation in a crash, but can be tricky to adjust, leaving excess strap. lies everywhere. The anti-rebound bar is supposed to be the replacement, but due to the design of the seats in my car, the bar doesn't fully adhere to the seat. This will still reduce rotation in a crash, but not as well. Newborn use - my first son was two weeks late and was a decent size so the RXT worked well from birth but would not be ideal for a young child. However, the QXT has some great features for newborns and will hold the newborn at the perfect angle and prevent their head from bobbing. Rear-Facing Leg Bracket - The leg bracket on the underside slides into a slot in the rear seat to achieve the desired angle. , but I've found that some cars don't have a suitable slot to install it in. It's almost impossible for me to fit a secure rear seat in my mother's Subaru, so I have a Chicco nextfit as an easy-to-install second seat for her car. This issue has not been resolved in the new QXT. Overall I am very happy with the seat so far. My old RXT is holding up well and my little one is always comfortable so I expect nothing less from this new series. I love that I can have both boys in the back of my small car and have full use of my back driver's seat. This seat has also been extensively safety tested in excess of what is required and will withstand exceptionally well in the event of a rollover crash. Be sure to check compatibility with your vehicle and allow sufficient time for safe installation after reading the manual and watching videos online.
