I have to admit I've never been a fan of air vent smartphone holders. However, this one can transform me. This holder comes with suction cup windshield mount and air vent mount. First I took it for the windshield holder. Suction cups aren't my favorite holder; I prefer more permanent holders with strong adhesives and/or strong magnets. However, I have found that installing suction cups on the windshield is acceptable where a more permanent installation is not possible due to a lack of suitable surfaces in the vehicle cabin. (I'm not giving you this to bore you with my preferences, but because I believe that acknowledging my biases before reviewing will help you get better context for the review I'm sharing about a product.) The Suction cup holder is the most important thing when I needed it. It holds securely without much wobbling or "drifting" like the holders I've used that use the gooseneck style. I have confidence in the stand and the mount that connects it to the suction cup holds it with little vibration or tilt. Its narrowest point is a ball seat with a screw tensioner that holds it securely. (Because the carrier's bottleneck is the source of the greatest instability - and why gooseneck carriers are so unstable - the narrow part is very long.) , Less durable ways of attaching the holder to the suction cups on the windshield. The real surprise, however, was the vent holder. I'm strongly against them since I've tried a few when I first picked up a smartphone. I would never buy it on purpose. I was only looking at it because it came with a windshield mount which I bought the package for. But one look and I was immediately interested. It has a screw clamp that securely grips the ventilation louvers. I've never seen this before. (Maybe this is old news, I don't know. I wrote off the fan holders a long, long time ago.) It then has a lip perpendicular to the axis of the main holder, which stabilizes the angle of the fans, which it wedges into the vent, like that that even if your car's air vent fins are too loose, it's still tight. I was impressed. The ball seat that holds the mount to the vent handle is the same sturdy bolt tensioner used in the windshield mount. For the first time since I first reviewed one of these, I'm actually experiencing the vent holder FIRST! My only question is durability. How well does plastic resist cracking? Does wear on the bolt tensioner or bleed collar cause reliability to decrease over time? If that fails I will update this review. Without such an update one can assume that it still works fine for me.
