Bought to decorate a window for the holidays. It fulfills the task described. It has a nice variety of effects that can be selected with the remote control. You can customize speed, brightness, mode, etc. The microphone mode is cool, the lighting can interact with the surrounding sound. I've struggled between this and other "intelligent light strips". I haven't seen why a mobile app is better than a remote control. "Real smarts" that can connect to a smart home kit can be cool if you can activate them with your voice, but they're more expensive.
