Love that this is the traditional baby gate I grew up with. This works well in small doors. We bought it to stretch down the hallway so we're using it 44 inches long. It's not strong at this size and we have trouble opening and closing the gate easily. It seems stuck at the bottom and we had to move it onto a wooden floor to open more than a carpet. Since we just climbed above it (to train puppies with a dog that doesn't push him), everything worked fine. The father-in-law came and he can't get over it. Opening and closing the handle and gate was problematic, and the metal latch falls at an angle at this width, causing the wooden brace to crack as he tried to close it, not realizing he had to push first to straighten it to judge. The fact that the block of wood was weak enough to break easily was not a good thing. I remember my baby gate being abused and the wood seemed MUCH stronger/harder than this one. I'm guessing it's pine or slightly lighter wood whereas the original gate we had was hardwood as it was heavier too. All in all, if you need a dog training hat for use in small spaces and doorways, this is probably a good choice. As we bought it for a large hallway I wouldn't recommend it. Go to one of those with a door in the middle. We ended up ordering one of them to replace this one.
