Batteries not included. With a rumble about it, everything is fine. You can set the coarse grind to fine. The batteries died before I could finish a tank of peppercorns (I only managed to fill it once). It was a bummer. I use a lot of pepper and figured it would last a little longer than a tank of gas. Probably back to the Ratchet Pepper Mill. I thought it would be better since it's electric, but to be honest it's rather a hassle. Setting this coarseness is a bit odd because I never know where to place the dial. You have to make dots that get smaller, like a Sur La Table ratchet pepper grinder.
