The game may be fun, but it's a lot more repetitive than I was hoping for. Compared to something like (every game in) the Puzzle Quest series, where customization of your character and gear plays a big part, every battle plays out pretty much the same here. "Spells" are used too infrequently to be truly transformative, so your party composition has little to no impact on gameplay. Enemy actions don't change the playing field, so enemy abilities rarely really matter: they either kill you or they don't. Sometimes you get "no heart" levels as a twist, but that's the only significant variation I've encountered. I focused on Puzzle & Dragons Z because the RPG story, although subtle, gives more sense of accomplishment than playing the SMB levels, which don't differ much from the graphics. Try the demo available on the 3DS Store. If you enjoy the demo enough to imagine playing tens of hours of such puzzle battles, you will most likely enjoy this game.
