Description of Monroe 58643 Adjust Shock Absorber

REDUCES SAG UNDER LOAD -- Ideal for occasionally hauling or towing varying loads; heavy gauge, calibrated coil spring reduces sag when loaded up to 1,200 lbs. (capacity limited by suspension, tires and transmission; see owner's manual). EXCEPTIONAL HANDLING -- Tuned specifically for each application, full-displaced valving automatically adjusts to road extremes to provide ride consistency. CONSISTENT RIDE -- OE all-weather fluid contains special modifiers to handle extreme temperatures and PTFE-banded piston helps reduce friction between the piston and pressure tube to enhance responsiveness to changing road surfaces. LONGER SERVICE LIFE -- Self-lubricating fluid seal retains gas and reduces excessive friction against the piston rod to help reduce premature wear while heavy-duty nitrocarburized rod delivers long life. IMPROVES PERFORMANCE -- Nitrogen gas-charge maintains tire-to-road contact for improved ride and handling by reducing aeration and shock fade.

Needed for towing

Adding these to my F-150 has greatly improved the towing of my 7500 lb RV. With them, the truck is almost perfectly level (without a sagging rear end). I also seem to hesitate less when big trucks overtake me on the freeway. A very noticeable improvement over the stock.

Good dampers for shocks, struts and suspension

I installed these on my 2005 F150 after about 200,000 miles. The truck had a front leveling kit at the time of purchase so I don't know how much the front was raised. With a bed load of several hundred pounds, the back end is lower than the front. The shocks raised the rear about 1.5 inches and gave the truck a slight positive pitch. My camper has a tongue weight of about 450 pounds. With the camper my truck drives smoothly now. The ride with the new dampers is smooth with and without a load.

Doesn't matter! in shocks, struts and suspension

Exactly what I was looking for. My old dampers had been removed so I definitely needed new dampers. I also wanted to make an addition on the back. A friend recommended them to me, so I thought I'd give it a try and kill two birds with one stone. What difference does it make. Not only is the ride 100% better than before, it raised the rear end just 2 inches after installation. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. The price is very fair. I would recommend them to everyone without a doubt!

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Questionable senior purchase

Good quality and fast delivery

Prompt delivery and the contents of the package are fine as expected. There is no rust or oxidation on metal surfaces and the shock absorbers work well. I took it apart (very easy btw) to paint the spring red to match my 4.5" front suspension for my 2018 Silverado. These Monroe 58643's are the perfect length when folded and extended to raise 3-6 inches on a newer bodied GM truck. I'll rattle the silver shock body to match the Freedom Offroad A-pillars. Overall I am very happy with the Monroes…

Excellent shock absorber, best in shock absorbers, struts and suspension

I bought these because I needed a new shock absorber in the first place and also to haul a car and trailer. I can say without wearing anything I honestly haven't noticed a harder ride than I was told. It handled very well and was very responsive in corners. Getting back to the main purpose of the purchase, they have performed exceptionally well. The back didn't sag at all and held a fine normal height. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a great ride knowing they can also carry an…

Easy installation! Big shocks!

Replaced defective shock absorbers, same excellent quality! As I installed mine, I used a jack to raise the rear frame and put the jack stand on with a bolt on PB blaster before using my hand to help remove and remove the old shock, cleaning and wiping the area. Clean the nuts and bolts, put some blue threadlock on and hand tighten the bottom bolt on the new shock first, then the top bolt, which is the tricky part, but use a jack to raise the frame until it's perfectly aligned (you may have to…

Rear Squat Elimination

Installed on a 2007 f150 XL work truck. The truck is constantly loaded with tools and supplies and appears to have sunk a bit. Before installation I measured 37.5 inches from floor to wheel arch, after installation I measured 39.0 inches from floor to wheel arch. I believe these shocks provide additional support for the suspension, so 1.5 inches of lift is unlikely to occur if you're running an empty box. Installation is slightly more difficult than standard shock absorbers. The springs prevent

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Something's wrong

Just installed them on my 2005 F150 and the drivability has improved. Can't wait to see how they handle towing our boat. Shock absorbers are supplied in pairs (two per pack). NOTE. These shocks are NOT supplied pre-compressed. If you watch a lot of videos on Youtube, it is often recommended to install pre-compression shock absorbers, which allows you to install shock absorbers without lifting the truck. Since they don't compress, you'll need to raise the rear end and put stands under the frame…

Ideal for towing!: shock absorbers, struts and suspension

NOTE. It includes 2 shock absorbers, you just have to add one of them to your cart to get 2 shock absorbers, they are SOLD by STEAM. That being said I installed them on my 05 f150 to replace the stock mufflers at 107k miles. Not much has changed in normal no-load driving, except better on bumpy roads, but not harsher. I'd say it's more like how an OEM would drive if it were new. Now they excel if you throw a pendant on their back. NO SAGS AT ALL! My trailer used to "level" my truck when hooked…
