Review on Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Fixed Lens - Discontinued by Manufacturer by Mohd Arif ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Average quality, not an outstanding product.

The lens left a double impression. I bought it as a budget staffer for ff. Very convenient focal length at full frame, universal. Used exclusively for people photography - weddings, studio, portraits. Far from immediately realized that at 1.8 it is completely useless, up to 2.8. The wildest autofocus misses, no intra-camera adjustment could save, at different ISOs, under different shooting conditions, the glass behaved as it pleased, there was a clear focus shift on the face. The effect disappeared at apertures above 2.8, but this is far from 1.8. Accordingly, there was never sharpness. Probably if the budget is limited and there is an opportunity to buy it on the secondary market, because you want to fix it and you can buy it, but I would not recommend it.

Pros
  • - price - the weight - convenient focal length (on ff)
Cons
  • - not sharp in the open - looks flimsy - focus shift up to 2.8
