I almost wanted to take my 12 year old Oreck XL (great vacuum cleaner) to a vacuum shop but decided to take it apart and try it myself. It turned out that the solution to the problem is quite simple. The roller had so much hair, lint, and rope stuck in the "pivoting" parts that it could not rotate and burned the belts. I cleaned everything I could but it still wasn't spinning as easily as it should. I'm sure that after all these years the fat in the cones is gone and there's something else I can't get to. I ordered this, snapped it back in place, replaced the belt and my vacuum is running like new - in fact I've forgotten how good my vacuum was as it probably wasn't working at its best for a couple of years. I've seen some people complain that Oreck didn't make a roller that could have prevented this problem in the first place, but in my opinion a $12 replacement part after over a decade of regular use is a small price to pay you have to pay keep them. My vacuum cleaner works fine. I'm happy.
