Bright and crystal clear but don't expect a flat surface

I really wanted to love this screen. Elite screens look good so I thought I'd go with the safe option. But ultimately it's not a huge improvement over the cheaper brands I've used in the past. The biggest issue is screen ripples, which I was aware of from many other reviews, but I was hoping given the quality of the material used it might not be as noticeable as others have said. It's very noticeable. In truth, this seems like an inevitable problem when using a retractable screen. There seems to be no way to get a perfectly flat surface without resorting to stretch canvas (which costs more than double) or fixed canvas. I chose the retractable screen because I knew I wanted to hide the screen when not in use (it hangs in my bedroom, and as much as I LOVE my bedroom cinema, I want it to just look like a bedroom .when I'm not watching a movie). So that's a compromise. I get a clean bedroom wall during the day at the expense of a not-so-flat image when watching movies at night. It might not be such a big deal for some, but it's tedious when there are pans or camera movements that go from left to right. You'll notice ripples in the image that seem to pull you out of the magnificence of it all. I'm a bit disappointed and will probably come to a tab stretch screen in the future. The picture quality of my BenQ HT2050 is too amazing to waste on a notched screen. I've added photos, but it's hard to show what the waves look like on screen without actually seeing them. You can see how squiggly the lines are in the corner menu, as well as the mailbox border. On the plus side, the retractor feels really solid so I have a feeling it will hold up for a while and the brightness of the white is impressive. The picture looks very sharp and clear. In that respect I am satisfied. If I'm ready to upgrade, I'll probably go for the Elite screen with a pull tab.
