The bonnet no longer flaps!

After a pretty bad bonnet flapping experience on the Autobahn over the weekend, I decided I'd had enough and bought them. Installation took about 45 minutes, but that's only due to how difficult it is to get to the side panel mounting screws. I ended up removing the grille to make this area easier to access, but it was still a difficult experience. If you have a curved ring spanner, you'll likely find it MUCH easier to get hold of. The reverse setting is correct, but the advice I've read before was to attach the same nut to a piece of tape (so you don't drop it) and then tighten, that was brilliant. I made a small loop of tape, taped it to my finger along with a nut, and used a hex screwdriver to screw in the threads from the outside. Once I was sure it was secure, I removed my hand and tape, reinserted the box wrench, and then tightened the bolt with a hex wrench. That was my only question, but this is a Jeep design and the Rugged Ridge has a great design to work with what's already there. Big adjustment to make the latches tighter or looser depending on aftermarket hoods or other modifications (my hood and side panels are stock). After the install I got back on the freeway and made sure to accelerate to higher speeds and drive the semis to see if they were flapping, but the hood was rock hard the whole time. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is tired of gritting their teeth every time the hood flaps and afraid it will hit their windshield.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
