Works out of the box. Tried with SD, Micro SD and Compact Flash, works fine with SD and Micro SD, but the pins on the Compact Flash connector are not hardened like in the good old days. Although I inserted the CompactFlash card very carefully, the contacts in the card reader were SO SOFT that, despite careful processing, they immediately bent. Finally, after aligning the contacts (twice) under a magnifying glass, I finally managed to insert and read the CF card. I would normally return and send this piece of Chinese Cr@# back, but as I no longer use CS cards it was a lot harder to remove and send back. Let's hope the rest lasts a long time and I don't regret that decision. This box requires TWO 9-pin USB 2 headers on the motherboard and one 19-pin USB 3.0 header. I've researched it pretty closely and recreated it. I had to use a 9 pin USB extender (NZXT, another piece of junk, read my review on that). All USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports are working and have been tested for speed. The fit in the 5.5" bay was a little tight and it was quite a hassle to get it in (don't think this was my new case as the CD-ROM drives fit into the bearings of a Ford truck like new Check back in a year to see if this thing holds up I really wouldn't recommend it to a friend but reading the reviews it seems like all this cheap stuff is the same
