This was my first experience with an HDMI switch and a chance to learn the difference between active and passive switches. This is a passive switch with no external power supply. It draws switched power from the TV's HDMI port, but offers no signal amplification. No problem if the input devices offer sufficient amplification and a relatively short output cable is not connected to the television. In my case, the switcher didn't work as well with a Fire Stick plugged into the switcher's input port because it's a low-voltage device designed to plug directly into a TV's HDMI port without a cable. However, I have found that the signal is transmitted normally and the video quality is good when connected to devices with higher output voltages, such as e.g. B. my DVD player and the Xbox360 that are connected to the input connectors of the switcher. Such passive switches are well suited for larger devices with a shorter cable to the TV. If you run a lot of cables (e.g. from room to room) or run low-voltage devices like streaming players, a powered switch with a power supply might be the best option. All in all a decent switch for the money if you understand and can work around the limitations of passive switches.
