Review on πŸ“» Advanced In-Dash Receiver: Insane Audio DD2001 with Bluetooth, On/Off Road Navigation, and HD Touch Display - Universal Double Din Multimedia System by David Pearson

Stay away from Android head units!

I bought the DD2001 and this is my biggest complaint: the GPS is terrible at signal retention, making navigation almost useless. The Android version is heavily outdated and the system settings are extremely superficial. The entire interface lacks a simple layout that forces you to work with applications even if you're just playing music. The music interface is an application. Equalizer is a separate application. You can't just click an icon to instantly switch to the equalizer. You need to minimize the player and open the equalizer. They added steps to a process that had been refined over the years. Therefore, the user experience is quite cumbersome, to say the least. The lack of physical buttons forces you to use controls within apps, which becomes a challenge due to the tiny screen. And if you want to use an app that only has portrait mode, you're SOL because the UI doesn't display the app properly. It's like Insane Audio took the 1st gen Pixel XL phone and turned it into an amplifier. Last but not least, the quality of the music could have been much better. I have a feeling this is because the codecs that run the amp are as cheap as the application that plays the music files. You can buy a better music player from the Google App Store, but how much quality do you think you get for $10? Also the fact that you can't find ANY information on the performance of the amp is dubious at best. I wouldn't be surprised to find direct auxiliary circuitry from the front of the device (phone) to the back, straight to the speakers hidden beneath the external amplifier circuitry. I'm a little embarrassed to tell my friends that I wasted over a thousand dollars on a HU that was actually worth $50. I'll just have to accept the loss and buy another HU from a more reputable audio manufacturer.
