The phone also stayed in place during the crash.

I expected it to work as well as it does. I used it with my Samsung S8 in an Otterbox and set it up on a tow bike just before an overnight off-road trip. I did 100 miles in 2 days mostly on gravel roads and trails. When I first put the phone back in place it felt pretty weak - I could tap the phone and it started shaking. I tested it on our very bumpy trail and pulled it off a few curbs and it seemed to hold up well, so I left it on for my tour. I had no problem with to search my phone (which I used to navigate with RideWithGPS). The real test came when I was going down the steep slope and my front wheel got stuck in the deep sand. I went over the bars and the impact was big enough to twist my brake levers (that's why you don't over tighten them!) and made a big dent in my helmet. I fully expected to have to track down my phone, thinking there was no way an inflated rubber band could hold it during the impact, and yet it was completely intact. ) and left a big dent in my helmet.
