Review on 🐾 Coastal Pet Products Latigo Leather Round Dog Collar, 5/8" x 16 by Mary Medema

This is a really well made product. I only gave four stars because they didn't offer the size I needed for my dog. I originally bought him for a new dog and estimated the size of his neck. When the collar arrived it was too big for him. I was planning on returning it and ordering a smaller size, but this company didn't offer anything in the size I needed. So I quickly fixed it with my own hands instead. I started at the end with holes and no buckle and cut the thread that sews it together. I used needle nose pliers and pulled the thread until the folded piece was the right length for my dog's neck. The padding inside the turned part was a folded piece of leather and I cut it to the right length and then threaded the thread onto a large repair needle (like the one shown here: Home Repair Needles). There were two ends of thread on either side of the twisted part and I used the previous sewing holes to close the twisted part back up by threading both ends of thread through each hole. I finished with a few surgeon's knots, cut the threads and threaded them into the twisted area with the tip of a needle. I then simply cut off the end of the leather dye to leave the strap long enough to attach and pierced the hole with the tip of a pair of scissors. It would have been better to use a leather punch but I had to do it. I cut the end strap a little shorter than I should have but everything stays closed really well and it has that nice classic twisted leather look that I love for a dog collar. I made all these changes about three weeks ago and since then he has been wearing the collar all the time with no problems. I hope this little tutorial helps anyone else who is having trouble finding the right collar.
