Makes the job a lot cheaper than a new dealer fob

I have a 2011 CRV and I noticed the key was dangling from the fob. I thought it was because a small screw was missing, but even after I bought a new one and put it in, it was still loose. culprit? The plastic case is cracked. So I went to trusty Revane to see what I could find. Of course, there were many ways to replace the keychain. This one was a little bigger than the others but it had good reviews so I bought it. Overall, the installation went smoothly. A minor annoyance was that it had no instructions. Instead, I found some pretty good instructions in another keychain review here on Revain (link below). This review also recommends replacing the battery when changing the case (these keychains use a CR1616 coin battery), which I did. I also had a little trouble installing the screw initially, but after adjusting it, the screw went in fine. The case seems pretty solid and has a separate piece of plastic that goes around the bottom of the key (the metal part) so hopefully it will last a long time. The time will show. But even if this thing only lasts a year for $13, I can't really complain. Dealers charge a ton for new keychains, so that's not a problem.

Pros
  • Works great for me
Cons
  • No instructions
