I installed a motion activated floodlight in the back of my house and bought two compact fluorescent floodlights to save energy. It was a mistake, they were each rated at 1350 lumens which was the highest available in the store and they just didn't produce anything at all. CFLs may work well in the summer, but in December and the cold they often flickered when turned on and took a minute to warm up to full brightness. This is not what you need in a security light, you need instant brightness to scare a potential intruder away from your garden and into their path. These bulbs serve their purpose perfectly.
