We use these placemats every day and they are great for everyday use. We had a few splatters, including red wine, but had no bamboo stain issues. Shake off / brush off crumbs and wipe with a damp cloth after use. I also sprayed them with alcohol for extra cleaning. I would not clean these cloths (or anything made out of wood) with strong detergent or bleach. I use them on a brown tablecloth and they blend in well with the natural look. For a more dramatic table I use a black tablecloth and the woven pattern really stands out. I don't like vinyl placemats so the natural look of bamboo is perfect for me. If you need wipes that will stand up to frequent, heavy cleaning and/or bleaching, vinyl is probably your best bet.
