Review on Black Flip Mino Video Camera - 2 GB, 1 Hour (1st Gen) by Juan Moncrief

Big but terrible issue to be aware of

Update 5 months later: I absolutely love Flip Mino. I use it for study, fun weekend projects, and lately to spice up work meetings. I take it to work meetings where there is informal communication and I demonstrate it to several people and at the end of the day I see what I got. I did this 3 times and made short videos less than 2 minutes long that people loved. With video editing software, it's easy to quickly create a video and send it to a group. I'm glad I have a camera, although the loss of family interviews still sickens me. I've had it for 5 weeks now and it's a lot of fun. It was easy to use and connect to my computer. I cut the video and made one big video with titles and stuff like that. But the first big event came and I had a problem. I interviewed people at family reunions. When I wanted to transfer the video to my computer, I was able to transfer 1 and delete the other 9. Now I'm not saying there wasn't user error. I thought I knew how to do it and didn't read the hints carefully, BUT (1) there is no undo if they are deleted, everything even with the camera still plugged in, even searching the camera directories as on one disk is there, these are jpg thumbnails of what i had before, (2) WHY should i transfer one and delete the rest? I just went through them one by one so I could go through them, name something useful, make a note of what needs to be trimmed, and then move on to the next video. I'm assuming you want to migrate them all and then change the filenames. It's been 2 weeks and I'm just looking at the camera and I want to throw up. Your tech support replied but I don't have the video. I want the story to have a happy ending, I haven't told the family yet.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • So-so
