Arm and Hand Cast

Activa Instamold was recommended by e-NABLE in a two step process to cast my son's hand and the missing hand. I went to school with this product. Age on the shelf matters. Although the box is undated, we had to buy three boxes before we got the right shape. We bought the first box through Revain. My husband didn't follow the instructions on the back and added water to the mixture instead of mixing it with the water. It was a gross failure. I bought the second box in the hobby lobby. We followed the directions exactly, but it was never a runny gel consistency. It didn't stick to my son's hand or create suction when he held out his hand, which e-NABLE says we expected. I went back to the hobby lobby to get their latest box. The example photos on the box were the same, only lighter. We mixed again according to the instructions and got an all-round successful form. The top tips are as follows: Sieve any lumps before mixing. We used a kitchen strainer. Don't pack in your measuring cup. Pour the mixture into the cup like a light snowfall. Slowly pour the mixture into the sample water. You need 2 people - one adds the mixture and the other mixes in. It will look like semolina when ready to pour into the mold. We used a heavy cardboard box shaped like a Quaker cereal box but larger. When Instamold sets, it will be spongy and still wet to the touch, but the product will not come off your fingertips. I will definitely be using Instamold again, bearing in mind that it may take more than one box to get the desired result.
