Review on πŸ” Enhance Surveillance Footage with 2-Pack 64GB SanDisk High Endurance MicroSD Card Bundle by Paul Philippe

SD cards are reliable, but the USB adapter is complete junk

First, a word of warning: the USB adapter does not release the memory card when it is inside, as it is completely inside the adapter and there is no ejection mechanism whatsoever. Luckily I had some good precision tweezers with which I could barely pull it out. As soon as I got it out I ripped the adapter apart and found that it was a USB 2.0 adapter so it's pretty much useless even though it works. Luckily, this didn't increase the price of the bundle compared to buying two separate cards. If anything, I believe this has brought the cost of the two cards down a bit, at least at the time of writing this review. With cards in a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT USB-3 adapter, write speed is around 40MB/s, which is the declared write speed, and around 42MB/s read. I then moved the card to a laptop with an SD card slot and was able to read the card at around 65MB/s using the included MicroSD to SD card adapter. This equates to a claimed write speed of 40MB/s, but is about 2/3 of the claimed read speed of "up to" 100MB/s. Note that CrystalDiskMark recorded a slower read speed, but I suspect the USB 3.0 adapter is to blame. These are "stamina" cards, not "speed" cards, so it's not too bad. If those speeds suit your needs and endurance is important (mine are for security cameras), use memory cards. However, the adapter belongs directly in the trash - like many "free add-ons" in life, this one is useless.

Pros
  • Specially designed for high-reliability applications
Cons
  • Protection
