Good machine, a bit noisy. Works well as a media player, if we still had analog TV signals we could watch TV with it. When connected to a computer via HDMI, 1280 x 1024 looks best. The sound is okay in a pinch, definitely invest in alternative speakers if you use them frequently. The line out is barely loud enough to use headphones instead of fan noise (remember my unit is 2 feet above me in my van). There is no zoom on the lens, so the size depends entirely on the distance. The device is bright enough to see if the blinds are closed. Blackout curtains are not needed but are always closed. Will definitely find a permanent use for it, but I'm looking for a quieter device for my application. Update, I found that when using it to play media it can only handle files up to 2GB. If your file is larger, playback will simply stop once it hits the 2GB mark. So if you have a 4GB file, you can only watch half of the movie. Also, it can only handle 320 files in a folder. So if you have a lot of files, you have to split them to see everything.
