To protect against allergens and dust mites, instead of a standard mattress cover, I opted for a 6-sided, breathable, noiseless, waterproof mattress cover with Velcro for a new mattress. Of the many cases available, this one had good reviews and seemed to be just what I wanted, plus it was made out of bamboo with a terry cloth top. That's good news; The bad news was when it arrived and I opened it, it smelled strongly of chemical/plastic/poison. I couldn't be sure if the smell was coming from the case itself or the plastic case it was packaged in because the smell was on both. My first thought was to return it, but I decided to try washing the case first to try it out in case the smell was coming from the packaging and not the case itself. I put it in the washing machine, rinsed, washed, rinsed twice, washed again with a double rinse and the smell was gone. The case appears to be of good quality and survived the washing process with no ripped seams so I left it. I ordered the right size for a new mattress but it is too loose and looks more like a mattress bag. I stuffed the excess material under the mattress, between the mattress and the box spring. Was this case useful? Yes, because I was happy with many aspects of the product. Was I 100% happy with it? No, because the initial smell was very bad and the landing was too big.
